This will be the 50th Music Festival since John and Margaret Gosling discovered our mountain village and decided it was the perfect setting for music-making. To commemorate the occasion, we have planned an inspiring set of concerts for you in that same idyllic spot.
Especially for this anniversary season, we present Beethoven’s glorious Ninth Symphony with a full chorus and four outstanding soloists, who will also perform in a night of Broadway and opera. The real and authentic rock band Pablo Cruise joins us this year. Our tribute concerts bring you the greatest hits of Tom Petty, one of the icons of American music whom we lost last fall, and music by The Eagles in a concert titled “Hotel California” with some numbers accompanied by the Bear Valley Orchestra. Two-time Grammy-winner and renowned jazz violinist Mads Tolling returns with his quartet, Mads Men. Violinist Dawn Harms once again enchants and entertains children of all ages in our free Family Concert. The Bear Valley Orchestra performs Vivaldi’s Lute Concerto in D and other Italian works with guitarist Peppino D’Agostino, and the award-winning Thalea String Quartet returns as our ensemble-in-residence.
This year, because of our generous donors, we are able to perform repertoire requiring a larger orchestra, including Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with one of Bear Valley’s most beloved guest artists, the legendary pianist Olga Kern, led by former Bear Valley Music Festival conductor Carter Nice. Maestro Michael Morgan will conduct Schumann’s Symphony No. 4 in that same concert.
Of course, all are invited to the ever-popular Gala dinner and auction.
Please order your tickets early and consider adding a generous tax-deductible donation. There are far more reasons to support your favorite music festival than we can list here. Suffice it to say that, if you had to choose which year to attend the Bear Valley Music Festival — a choice no one should ever have to make — this year is it.
We look forward to seeing you at the tent!
